Our story

A workshop, not a factory

Rivus started with one watch Tomáš Potoček made for himself. Then a few for friends. Then came the idea of putting a real piece of space inside.

Tomáš Potoček, founder and watchmaker of Rivus

The watchmaker

Built one at a time

Tomáš got his first watch at seven and took it apart almost immediately. He has wanted to know what happens inside ever since. He spent his free time taking watches apart, learning how movements work and studying the great watch houses.

For years he worked in a different field, but the hobby won. He first made a watch for himself, the one he thought most beautiful. Then a few for close friends. Then came the question: why stop there, when you can put a genuine piece of space around the movement? Today Tomáš assembles every Rivus watch himself and checks it before it leaves.

Made by people we know

We work with small Czech workshops whose people we know by name. A small engineering workshop makes the case to our own design. The meteorite dial is made in the Czech Republic, and a saddler in northern Moravia stitches the leather straps by hand.

The movement is Swiss, a Sellita SW200, chosen because it is reliable and easy to service. The remaining parts we buy in.
